Happy New Year – “belatedly”!

EPay is now available, which will allow you to pay your water/refuse bill with a credit card.  Please use the EPay link, located on several pages of this website.

The project between US 12 and McNally Lane, adjacent to Fratello’s, will probably be presented to the Plan Commission in early March.

We need some volunteers to serve as Plan Commission members.  If you are interested, please call me at 847-740-6982.

Volo’s Administrator, Ken Buchardt, is recuperating from heart surgery.  The operation was February 1 and he has already been released from the hospital.

The Village Treasurer, Cheryl Grolle, is preparing the budget for 2012-2013 to be presented to the Finance Committee which will meet at 6:30 p.m. on February 14.

The planning for Lake Michigan water to serve Volo and other communities continues to move forward.  The next important step will be to form a joint agency.

Until next time,

Caution for the Volo Community: The Village of Lakemoor has installed red light enforcement cameras at the intersection of US 12 and Route 120.  I would remind you that the entire intersection is within the Village of Lakemoor.

The new entry sign is installed at Village Hall, located on the north side of the drive from Fish Lake Road.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has installed the caution signs on US 12 and Molidor/Sullivan Lake Road and new, more visible stop signs on Molidor and Sullivan Lake Road.  IDOT also completed a speed study of the area and will not be making any changes to the posted speed limit at this time.

Lake Michigan water discussions are moving forward in a positive direction.  All 8 entities are doing serious thinking that is making Lake water an appropriate decision.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In response to a letter that I sent to the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) requesting improvements to the intersection of US 12 and Molidor Road, I have received the following information which I would like to share with you, the emphasis is added:

“The existing advance intersection warning signs on US Rte 12 are the proper size for the speed and number of lanes of this particular roadway.  The exiting flashing beacon is a standard 12” beacon and they do not come in larger sizes.  However, in an effort to bring more attention to the existing signs we will install new signs with high intensity prismatic reflective sheeting.  We will also be installing additional advance intersection warning signs in each direction on US Rte 12 within the median across from the existing warning signs.

In regards to the existing STOP signs, the Illinois Department of Transportation maintains all STOP signs on dedicated side streets at the intersection with a state route.  We do not install signs that contain flashing LED lights.  However, we will replace the existing Stop Signs on Molidor/Sullivan Lake Road with new STOP signs that are fabricated with the aforementioned high intensity prismatic reflective sheeting.  In addition, new CROSS TRAFFIC DOES NOT STOP plates will also be added below the stop signs on Molidor/Sullivan Lake Road.

The Illinois Vehicle Code requires that an engineering and traffic investigation be used as a basis for posting any speed limit other than those specified by statute.  The purpose of the study is to determine the speed limit that is consistent with motorist safety and with the safety of other necessary activities along the highway.

Traffic speed observations will be made to provide information on the prevailing speed of vehicles travelling on the section of US Rte 12 and Molidor/Sullivan Road.  The appropriate speed limit will then be determined by considering additional factors such as pedestrian activity, the number of intersecting streets and driveways, parking conditions, accident experience, and speed limits posted on adjacent sections of highway.

We will let you know the results of the speed limit investigation as soon as it is completed.”

IDOT will be taking measures at the intersection as indicated above.  Please contact me with any questions you may have.
